Should We EVEN Strive?

Do you like the situation you are in right now? Are you fine with just staying there forever? According to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, in life we first all need those basic needs like food and water. After this comes the need for safety, feeling loved, self-esteem, and finally self-actualization. It is stated that we only need those five needs in life; however, there is actually one more step after self actualization. It may not be shown in the pyramid, but the actual final step is called transcendence. The highest level a human can get to.

Transcendence in general is going beyond human experiences. It is achieving something that you really can't do in this lifetime. This could be seen as getting out or detaching yourself from the human conditions that are connected and won't ever get away from you. These human conditions are pain, struggles, sadness, and many more. We do not get to escape from any of those in our lives. However, it is known that only in Heaven can you escape from pain and other struggles forever. Because of this, one could say that being with God or being in Heaven is actually transcendence. Now, since nothing comes for free, we must work hard to achieve it. Especially because it would grant our ultimate desire. Everyone wants to escape the situation they are in. However, should we really strive to attain something that is not even proven? How do we even know if it is real?

No one really knows the truth of it; however, I still do believe that we must strive for transcendence to achieve our ultimate goal. Some may say that transcendence has not even been proven to exist. No one has ever gone to Heaven or proven that they have gone there. We do not know if Heaven is just a lie that keeps us all limited. Some may also say that we should just focus on our lives rather than committing to the Lord. However, even if ever it doesn’t exist, it would still benefit the life we are in. We must still strive for it because you do not really lose anything when you invest in it. Regarding what I stated earlier, it benefits our lives today because when we strive for transcendence, we strive to be with the Lord. And to be with the Lord, we must follow his commands which could be seen in the Bible. Some may say that we must focus on the people we are with first and enjoy the time we have with them. However, striving for transcendence would actually help you do that better. The Bible teaches you values which would help you have a better relationship with them. Observe the people who actually believe in God. They are the ones who actually have the best relationship with their friends and family. It just really depends on how the person strives for transcendence and understands how to actually achieve it. In addition, striving for transcendence helps you have faith when difficult situations come in your way. Imagine not believing in God and being in a really bad situation. Believing in transcendence or the Lord would really change how you would act and affect your future positively.

In addition, without striving for transcendence in terms of Heaven, we may do things which would affect our future. Therefore, not getting to enjoy the life we have now. These things could be part of those so-called limitations stated earlier. Those limitations could be killing a person or doing other harmful things. Finally, to top it all off, we must strive for it with full power because what is the use of striving for something with only half the effort? If ever Heaven is actually real, not striving for it in full power wouldn’t probably get you in. In addition, not striving for it at all would be stupid since it doesn’t really bring harm and at the same time makes our current lives better. Sometimes it is not all about achieving the goal. Sometimes what we get while striving for it is the actual achievement. We may not have proof that it exists, but that’s actually the beauty of it. The process to attain something impossible is through one’s strong faith and will. The challenge we face to achieve our ultimate desire.
